I recently read David Unmerciful. Reynolds’s new release “Abe: Patriarch Lincoln in His Times.” That self-described cultural biography is burdensome (932 pages of text), edifying and excellent at placing President within the context of magnanimity political, economic and social cross-currents of his era.
